Something has been bugging me of late. As a fan of Sony Exclusives, I like to support the titles releases. I also am a keen trophy whore.
As someone tweeted, tongue in cheek, you know your a gamer when you play the same level 30 times just to get a Platinum trophy. This is me. I am incredibly patient and meticulous. I will do the same thing over and over to reach a goal. It's just time consuming, which I don't have so much of these days.
Sony have already released 3 of it's big exclusives this year LBP2, KZ3 and Motorstorm Apocalypse. I have bought all 3. I like them all but the trophies are just way too easy. There is no challenge.
Comparing LBP1 to LBP2 - LBP1 was so much harder to complete (ace) each level without dying. This one level called The Bunker was a revolving wheel of electric which you just died in over and over. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aNRPH3-h6yQ&feature=related
KZ2 apparently had one of the Top 10 hardest trophies in it http://segmentnext.com/2011/03/21/10-hardest-playstation-3-trophies according to this article of course.
Motorstorm Pacific Rift had the most gruelling online trophies! It's sequel leaves me with 70% trophies already in a few hours!
So is this a ploy by Sony to sell it's games? After all there is plenty of trophy/acheivement websites about including this fab one!
Therefore maybe if there is a word of mouth that you can platinum this said game in a weekend that people will buy it! However this to me is a double edged sword. If it's so easy and quick to complete surely there is no longevity from the game? I want more of a challenge and good game play not just ping, ping, ping, complete, collecting dust, trade in!
Sorry I wrote this as a blog I hope it's not too long! :p

Not sure it's really a 'dumbing down', just making them a little more user-friendly.
I don't like trophies to be too easy, but what I hate even more are the ones that make you grind through a game for no other reason to obtain it.
For example - I don't mind trophies which take skill to obtain, whether that be mastering tricky controls to pull of a certain in-game move, or string moves together to obtain a certain score. But I despise those which force you to "kill 15,000 enemies", or repeatedly play a level relying on little more than blind luck to unlock, such as PAIN.
I'm also glad that a lot of developers (not just those under the Sony banner, but also those third parties creating multi-platform games) seem to dialling back on the number of online trophies, and also what is required to unlock those that there are.
I also dislike those games which offer different trophies for completing on different difficulty levels, while the higher levels are locked until you complete the game on a lower setting. If you want someone to play a game more than once, make the game worth playing more than once - don't force it with trophies. Too many games these days are, quite honestly, not worth playing through more than once - and if you want the trophy, it becomes a grind, and an otherwise enjoyable game quickly falls out of favour.

I do not think that it is a ploy by SONY since the trophies I believe are governed by the developers, I may be wrong there.
I have noticed they are getting easier and I have talked about this with some of my friends. In some aspects I am glad that they are easier, such as paranoimia specified, when they get rid of the grinding such as get 10,000 kills (R2 and BFBC) and forcing some people to play based on skill (Vanquish and Uncharted 2).
I like the difficulty trophies, but I do not like having to unlock them. If there was a way to unlock the harder difficulties without first completing the boring lower difficulties (Return of Max Hazard) it would be supreme. The reason I say this is that anymore all first person shooters seem to be almost the same, so playing on an easier difficulty is just boring, unless your into the story, which you can still follow of the hardest difficulty. The lower difficulties are for lower gamers, thus degrading the enjoyment of the game for me.
